Why Teach?
The quote by Ayesha Siddiqi, "Be the person you needed when you were younger," has deeply resonated with me since the first time I heard it. As a result of experiencing many hardships during my youth, I have always aspired to have a career where I could be a trusted adult for young people. I explored various fields such as social work and child psychology, but none of them felt like the right fit. However, when the idea of becoming an educator was pitched to me during my junior year of high school, I was shocked that I had not yet realized that teaching was a possible career field. It was at this moment that everything clicked—I immediately decided that this was the career field I would pursue. Being an English Language Arts teacher not only allows me to mentor young adults but also allows me to embrace my love for literature. Throughout my hardships in life, reading and writing have always been coping mechanisms of mine and I want to share this passion with my students. Since making the decision to enter the field of education—six years ago—I have never doubted that teaching is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Every day that I step into the classroom only reaffirms this belief. Even on the roughest of days, my desire to "be the person I needed when I was younger" serves as a constant source of motivation and prepares me to face the daily challenges of being an educator.
